Where is Your Power?

"I can find only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours, and God’s. For me, the word God means reality. Reality is God, because it rules. Anything that’s out of my control, your control, and everyone else’s control -- I call that God’s business." -Byron Katie

When we feel powerless, it's because we are trying to operate in someone else's business or God's business.  We have no power in either place.

Earthquake-God's business
ADHD-God's business
House won't sell- God's business
Worry about the future- God's business

We can't change any of these things.  Fighting against them is useless and exhausting.  Usually we can recognize that.  Where we get into trouble more often is when it comes to other people's business.

You should get a job- their business
I want you to be happy- their business
I want you to understand me- their business
You should take better care of yourself- their business
You should turn in your homework on time- their business
You shouldn't fight with your sister- their business

We think that we have some power here.  Especially with our children and our spouse. But operating in their business only creates anger and resentment.  We can't control what other people do, and it isn't our business to control them.

"If you are living your life and I am mentally living your life, who is here living mine? We’re both over there. Being mentally in your business keeps me from being present in my own. I am separate from myself, wondering why my life doesn’t work. To think that I know what’s best for anyone else is to be out of my business. Even in the name of love, it is pure arrogance, and the result is tension, anxiety, and fear. Do I know what’s right for me? That is my only business. Let me work with that before I try to solve your problems for you. If you understand the three kinds of business enough to stay in your own business, it could free your life in a way that you can’t even imagine." -Byron Katie

Your power is only in your business, my friend.

What kind of Mom you are - your business
How you respond to your children - your business
What kind of spouse you are - your business
Meeting your own needs - your business
What kind of person you are - your business
How you contribute to the world- your business
What you teach your children- your business
How you take care of your body- your business
Setting consequences when your kids fight or don't turn in homework- your business

If you are feeling angry, frustrated or hurt you aren't in your own business. Sometimes it's hard to see for ourselves where we are operating outside our own business.  Life coaching is all about recognizing that and helping your find your own power.  Schedule a free mini session with me here.
