Did you know that confusion is a choice?
Most of us think we are just describing a situation when we say, "I'm confused." We say that like it's out of our hands and we don't have much control over it. "Maybe my brain will figure this out or maybe it won't. Hard to say."
How disempowering is that?
The lower brain likes confusion. One of the things the lower brain has evolved to do is to keep us safe. So it says to stay in the cave and only go out when you are really hungry because there are tigers out there. There aren't many tigers in the neighborhood these days, so instead your brain tells you to be afraid of mean people, or risk, or of making a wrong decision. But if you are "confused" about that decision and you just can't decide what to do, you don't have to do anything. That feels safer for sure.
It also feels boring. Those cave walls start closing in after a while, ya know?
So whenever you hear yourself saying, "I don't know" or "I'm confused" ask yourself these three questions.
- What is the next step? You don't have to know the path from start to finish before you take action. All you have to do is figure out what the next step is. You can always figure out the step right in front of you.
- If I did know the answer, what would it be?
- What is the answer that feels most like love?
If you answer honestly, you'll have to give up confusion.
P.S. Making the decision and following through with it will still feel scary. You'll just have to know that and get friendly with fear if you want to evolve into the next best version of you.
